Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. This was a natural trait for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by gifted parents and a loving, supportive family. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin - Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was a contralto. His father, Charles FitzSimons, managed an enterprise in Dublin and also owned part of the well-known Irish soccer club "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a fan of rough and sports as a kid and excelled at sports. This passion was combined with an equally natural gift of performing. This was demonstrated by her receiving nearly every Feis award for drama and theatrical performing her country offered. When she was 14she was admitted to the Abbey Theater, where her dream was to pursue operatic singing as well as classical theater.
